Holland bankrolls Mozambique’s water supply network

Holland has announced a donation of €20 million (about US$21.5 million) to support the proposed expansion of Mozambique’s Water Supply System of Greater Maputo, APA learns here on Wednesday. The Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources said in a statement that the donation was intended to build complementary water supply infrastructure in the region, which should serve the current 1.1 million consumers and another 650,000 people in 25 neighbourhoods.

Coverage of water supply services would increase by over 26 percent in urban areas by 2019, thus meeting the goals of the Mozambican government’s Five-Year Plan for 2015 to 2019.

Completion of the project is secured with the donation of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency and includes execution of water supply infrastructure.

Four distribution centres would be built with a capacity of 2,500 cubic metres each, together with 200 kilometres of distribution network and 20,000 new household connections.
