The Geita Gold Mine (GGM) in collaboration with the government is to implement a water project in the region worth  Sh12 billion.

The announcement was made by GGM Director General Terry Mulpeter during a meeting with new Geita Member of Parliament Mr Costantine Kinyasu.

Mr Mulpeter says the project aims to help Gieta residents access clean and safe water. According to Mr Mulpeter the project involved pumping water from Lake Victoria.

The GGM boss said, the project; inaugurated by Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan recently, will ease the water crisis in Geita by over 35 per cent.

In another development GGM has spent about Sh1.7 billion to boost the economies of residents in the region especially women and 300 young people.
