A South African firm has shown interest to invest over USD250 Million in the country’s solar energy.
Eastern Province Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo says the South African based solar energy firm plans to start generation of 200 MW of power to help mitigate the power deficit that the country is currently experiencing.
Mr Kasolo told ZNBC News in Chipata that the investor has already been allocated 150 hectares of land to set up the solar power plant by Senior Chief Nzamane.
He said the investor has already been on site in Chief Nzamane’s area and is expected to set up the plant in 9 months time once the power purchase agreement is signed. Mr Kasolo said the firm will sell power to ZESCO once it is operationalised.
