The second phase of rehabilitation of Matala Hydroelectric Dam based in southern Huila province may kick off this year, a source from the project told Angop Wednesday.
The manager of project, Celso Pontes, who did not specify any timeframe, spoke of completion in November 2015 of analysis on tender procedures and proposals of the companies that applied to bid on the project.
Celso Pontes said that it is expected that the Ministry of Energy and Water create the financial and technical conditions for the start of the second phase to rehabilitate two existing generators and replacing the third.
Matala Dam produces only 20 megawatts and is expected to reach 39 megawatts.
Estimated at USD 249 million, the first phase started in 2011 and ended in March 2015.
