According to the Angolan newspaper, the production will be held in an area of 1,500 hectares, under a project valued at more than USD 80 million.
The study of developing rice cultivation in the region is dated back to the 1970s. In 2014, Nanquete, which is 200 kilometers away from the provincial capital, the city of Ondjiva, benefited from an agro-industrial hub.
Angolan government initiative, the project, according to the ‘Jornal de Angola’, is part of the scope of diversification of the economy and the fight against hunger and poverty.
The cereal production is still in the experimental stage, in an extension of only 12 hectares, where it has already been harvested 30 tons.
The project will generate 500 jobs.
