Angola: Foreign Currency Sale Drops From €189.9M in Last 7 Days

Sale of foreign currency to commercial banks fell from equivalent USD 296.8 million (EUR 265.7 million) to USD 119.3 million (EUR 106.9 million) from 30 March to 3 June this year.

The information is contained in a BNA press note delivered to Angop Monday.

According to the source, 35.8 million Euros were sold at price of auction operations under headings of the Ministries of Health, Water and Energy, Telecommunications, Angolan Air company (TAAG) – Iata, State-run bodies and others.

The Central bank sold the USD at a rate of 166.710 and 186.264 kwanzas to one Euro in the transaction, according to the source.

During the same period, the BNA also released into the market 47.5 billion kwanzas worth of treasury bonds, of which 32.9 billion kwanzas in treasury bills and 14.6 billion kwanzas in securities.

Maturities stood at 2, 3 and 5 years on respective interest rates of 7.0 percent, 7.25 percent and 7.75 percent a year, the source added.
