Angola produces 600,000 tons of steel per year

Some six hundred thousand tons of steel rods are produced annually in Angola by five steel mills installed in the country, said Ivan do Prado, director of the Office of Studies and Planning at the Ministry of Industry, in Luanda.

Speaking to the press at a meeting that analyzed the scrap problem in the country, Ivan do Prado said that Angola has sufficient installed capacity to supply the market, and that, for this reason, the industrial sector banned the importation of steel rods four years ago.

Without advancing the number of scraps collected in the country, the official said only that there are in Angola nine companies licensed by the Ministry of Industry to carry out this work.

However, he emphasized that in this area the problem lies in marketing, since sales prices are very low, ranging from USD 800 to USD 1,200 a ton.
