Authorities in the municipalities of Cela and Quibala, central Cuanza Sul Province, last Thursday apprehended 36 lorries carrying logs and without proper documentation for the cargoes.
Speaking to the press, the head of Quibala Municipality’s branch of the Forests Development Institute (IDF), Isaac Augusto, said that the lorries were coming from the south-eastern Cuando Cubango Province and were headed to Luanda.
The apprehension took place due to the fact that the logging and timber transportation activity in the whole country has been suspended by the authorities, a measure that came into force on 31 January, 2018.
Alertou os operadores do sector florestal licenciados que o não cumprimento deste Decreto levará a apreensão e confisco a favor do Estado do produto e dos meios e equipamentos utilizados na transportação, bem como o pagamento de multas e a não renovação da licença.
As a result of this measure, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests urges the licensed operators of this sector to comply with the suspension order, otherwise they risk having their work equipment seized by the government together with the payment of a fine and the exploration licence suspended.
