Meliá Hotels has announced the new Meliá Maputo Hotel, the first property from the brand in Mozambique.

The deal extends the Meliá Hotels International’s presence in Africa, where it now operates 11 hotels.

The property is scheduled to open in quarter two of this year and is a new build by Meliá Hotels International.

The hotel is in the centre of Mozambique’s capital Maputo, ten minutes from the train station and 20 minutes from the international airport – the ideal location for both leisure and business travellers.

Meliá Maputo is within walking distance of some of the most famous attractions in Maputo, such as the National Art Museum, the Cathedral and the Jardim dos Profesores Park.

The hotel will adhere to the high standards of the Meliá Hotels & Resorts brand, which continues to grow internationally thanks to its innovative spaces, experiences and services, all of which are designed to meet the needs of modern travellers and are inspired by the traditions of Spanish hospitality.

The Meliá Maputo Hotel will offer 171 rooms and suites, as well as facilities for meetings and events including two event rooms and an auditorium for up to 150 people.

The hotel will also include a restaurant and a coffee bar.

Maputo has increased in popularity as a tourist destination within recent years, as the city is the country’s business capital whilst also appealing to leisure travellers. With its Mediterranean-style architecture, seaside location and large avenues such as the Avenida Marginal, it is one of the most attractive capital cities in Africa.

Visitors can find great dining, shopping and leisure facilities in the city as well as a broad range of cultural attractions.

A presence in Maputo is expected to open the doors for Meliá to potential growth in other vacation destinations in the country thanks to the growing popularity of travel to Mozambique.

The agreement for this hotel is the result of the partnership between Meliá Hotels International and the Portuguese hotel group Hoti Hoteis.
