At least Five million tons of corn is the amount the country needs to reduce the grain deficit in Angola, said the Agriculture and Forestry Minister Marcos Nhunga.
The official who was speaking to journalists at the end of a two-day visit to central Bié province with the aim of establishing agricultural projects in progress in this central region of the country.
He recognized that production in recent years, estimated at 2.5 million tons of corn, is insufficient, when consumption is around five million tons.
To reverse the situation and increase production, he said the government is working on the early distribution of fertilizers and pesticides, agricultural seeds, production tools to farmers and soil repair.
In the province, the minister visited the corn agro-industrial farm in Camacupa, 82 kilometers to the east, peasant associations and other production areas.
