A living icon to the Shangana language

The good humor, sympathy and the simplicity with which Antonio Marcos treats daily subjects, makes him one of the most popular singer in Mozambique. His iconic voice immortalizes the shangana, a language commonly spoken on the streets of Maputo.

Iconic are also his signature gloves, imported from traditional vocal groups of colonial Mozambique, which became a symbol of local music that resisted colonialism.

António Marcos is an important part of the living history of Mozambican music.
