The next Agricultural campaign for 2018/2019 provides for production of 11.3 million tons of roots and tubers and more than three million tons of cereals, said Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Marcos Nhunga.

Scheduled to start in September, the 2018/2019 crop year also includes the recruitment of over 380 higher and high technicians and a production of 802,202 tonnes of legumes, 1.9 million tonnes of vegetables, more than four million tonnes of corn.

The Cabinet minister, who was speaking at the opening of the seminar on expansion of the rural commercial network in the vicinity, explained that for the campaign in question, the aim is to correct soil acidity in an area of 30,000 hectares and to prepare another five million hectares for sowing.

He affirmed that the main source of income of the rural population accounts for more than 80 percent of the national agricultural production, representing about 99.8 percent of the country’s productive units and exploits about 97 percent of the total surface area worked out.
