The Cahora Bassa Hydroelectric Plant (HCB) posted revenues, channeled to the State, in the order of US$10 million at the end of the first half of this year, more than double the figure for the same period in 2017, according to Mozambican daily newspaper O País.

In the first half of last year, HCB provided the State with about US$4.4 million in revenue, according to the National Treasury Directorate (DNT).

HCB, located in the town of Songo, central Tete province, was the concession holding company that injected most revenue into the Mozambican State coffers.

The value of HCB’s contribution is equivalent to 43.7% of the revenue of companies licensed by the State, registering 137.9% growth in nominal terms, said the National Treasury Department.

The Nacala Integrated Logistics Corridor (CLIN), with a contribution of US$7.2 million dollars (+US$2.5 million than in the first half of 2017), was the second company in the group of concession holders that injected most funds into the public coffers.

HCB’s electricity production in the first quarter of 2018 was 3,433,504 megawatts per hour (MWh), or a 1.61% increase on production planned for this period.

HCB said, however, that the dam’s performance was lower than expected given that rainfall in the rainy season of 2017/2018 was below expectations in the Zambezi basin, or about four meters below what would be desirable. (macauhub)
