The Mozambique National Baseball Softball Federation has reached an agreement with the Municipality of Maputo, Mozambique, to use the old Bull Arena for baseball softball youth activities.

The Federation will make some renovations to transform the arena, that was built in 1956, into a baseball field, but the Municipality is already working on it, in order to determine the costs.

The arena will be used for official competition for the first time on 27 January, 2019, with the beginning of the first official championship.

In 2019 there will be two championships in Mozambique. One with players between 10 and 12 years old; and another one with boys in the age group of 13 – 15 years. There will be four teams from the city of Maputo and four from the city of Matola, for a total of eight teams (four for each category).

The Federation’s plan is to have another two cities involved in 2020 (Xai Xai City and Beira City) with the same age groups.

In 2020 Maputo City and Matola City will also have teams with players between 16 and 19 years old. So in 2020 the expected number of teams will be: eight teams fro 10 to 12 years old; eight teams from 13 to 15 years old; and four teams in the age group of 16 to 19 years old.

Mozambique National Federation has been making important progress to establish the new National Federation, working together with the Mozambique’s National Institute of Sport , the Mozambique Olympic Committee and the World Baseball Softball Confederation.

This is the first step to become a new member of the WBSC family, which already counts with 208 National Federations and Associate Members in 135 territories of the five continents.
