Thai Moçambique Logística (TML) has handed over to the DAR Group, a Dubai-based multinational engineering company, the supervision and inspection of the engineering project for the Macuze railway and port, which will include the participation of Portuguese construction company Mota- Engil.

“Bringing in DAR as an engineering manager and inspector of the project, our confidence in the good execution of the project is complete,” said José Pires da Fonseca, executive director of TML, quoted in a company statement on Thursday.

DAR will work alongside Mozambican company TDP – Engenharia e Supervisão.

The Macuze railway and port project was presented as a logistics corridor with a construction cost of US$2.8 billion, construction scheduled for next year and execution period of 44 months, according to the statement.

According to TML, the railway will be about 640 kilometres long and will mainly transport coal from Chitima and Moatize in the central province of Tete to a new port terminal in Macuse near Quelimane, the provincial capital of the province of Zambezia.

As announced last year, the work will be carried out by a consortium involving construction companies China Machinery Engineering and Mota-Engil.
