Mozambique and Angola should leverage themselves economically through a strong cooperation in the port service and natural gas industries, said the consultant Helena Zefenias Lowe.
The gender and development specialist was speaking to Angop in Maputo, Mozambique, on the need to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.
Also member of the Chamber of Commerce of Mozambique, Helena Lowe advised the two countries to take advantage of reciprocal opportunities in selected sectors.
The entrepreneur with business in Angola, Lowe, believes that Mozambique is very developed in terms of provision of service, especially in the port sector.
“This has forced us to develop the provision of services to the port sector, because the ports of Maputo, Nacala and Beira should have maximum capacity to serve throughout the year the neighboring countries which do not have access to the sea,” she stressed.
Therefore, the consultant wants the two countries to cooperate in this field with reciprocal advantages, as Angola is also very strong in terms of logistics supply to the oil industry, which requires a high level of specialisation.
Mozambique is about to start liquefied natural gas (LNG), which is expected to be produced by 2021, she said.
The consultant decried the fact that Mozambican students are sent to Russia to attend training in the oil field, rather to attend the same course in Angola.
Angola and Mozambique are two Portuguese Speaking Countries that share SADC.
In order to reverse this situation, the expert defended practical implementation of the relations.
The expert also quoted the example of recent bilateral visa suppression agreement signed by the two countries.
In her view, the circulation of knowledge makes countries grow and must be the path to go towards sustained joint development.
Last November, the Governments of Mozambique and Angola expressed their intention to transform their excellent political relations into concrete actions, commercial nature.
The intention was expressed by the heads of the diplomacy from the two countries at the end of the talks held in Maputo, Mozambique.
