The Angolan Government has focused on the Population’s well-being and Inclusive and Sustained Economic Growth”, among the priorities in its partnership with the United Nations.

The country’s commitment was confirmed Wednesday in Luanda by minister of Economic and Planning of Angola, Pedro Luis da Fonseca.

Fonseca was speaking to the press on the sidelines of the workshop on strategic partnership framework between the government and United Nations (UNDAF 2020-2022).

The minister said that these items were included in the two axes of the National Development Plan (NDP) 2018/2022.

The NDP 2018/2022 has five other axes, in addition to the 25 policies and 83 programmes of actions with the document based on the  (2018/2022) programme of the ruling MPLA party.

The minister stressed the importance of the first axis in improving the people’s well-being and the living quality of the families, poverty and inequalities reduction as well as promotion of human development, which, according to him, are crucial for the country’s economic and social progress

The NDP sets the improvement of health care and medicine, maternal and child health and nutrition, fighting against major endemics and strengthening the health information system.

Under NDP, he said that this policy is an aspect focused on combat inequalities in the distribution of national income, and highlights sensitive areas of intervention such as support for victims of violence, improved well-being of former combatants and veterans of the homeland and the modernisation of the compulsory social protection system.

In order to achieve this goal, the resident coordinator of the United Nations System in Angola, Paolo Balladelli, said that all entities should coordinate their effort in this fight.

He spoke of combat poverty and hunger, illiteracy, health, gender imbalances, indecent work, crimes institutional weaknesses, inequities to build a society of men and women who see their rights affected.

According to him, in seeking this welfare “we must take care of public assets.

He also defended solidarity and support for the processes of building development of other countries and peoples in this global village, the planet.”

The workshop on strategic partnership framework aims to constructively discuss and identify the strategic contribution of United Nations to the country’s national vision and priorities.
