PRESS RELEASE: BOLDER S.A. OPENS CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS
TESTING LABORATORY IN NACALA.

Early this month Bolder S.A. officially announced the opening of its first construction material laboratory in Nacala, Northern Mozambique. The move is part of the company strategy to consolidate its offer of integrated solutions in a geography expected to rapidly become one of the focus of new regional infrastructure.

With the refurbishment of the Nacala Port about to ramp-up under the coordination of the Penta Ocean/ Toya Japanese consortium and the eminent gas related projects on the horizon, the need for standards control in the region becomes paramount. In fact at its opening the facility has already been approved as the Reference Laboratory for the Nacala Port Project.

According to an industry insider, the effects of poor standards can be catastrophic on a project’s durability, economics and in terms of security. Market operators praised Bolder S.A. for addressing these needs with its laboratory initiative.

Bolder laboratory is equipped to test aggregates, Sands, ready-mix concrete and soil. Trained technicians operate the facility; using the latest equipment, regularly calibrated by third party specialists to guarantee accuracy and compliance to international standards – making it the first of its kind in the region.

Since the conclusion of the local airport and the Vale marine project, Nacala lacked the capacity to test materials in compliance to European (‘EN’) and American Standard Testing (‘ASTM’) regimes (EN and ASTM). Even during those projects, the laboratories were then of exclusive use of its contractors while Bolder will continue its policy of working and serving all industry players.

Carlos Cabanas, Director of Bolder S.A. stated, “We are pleased to inaugurate the first regional laboratory of its kind and position ourselves as the reference for verification and testing both in Nacala and for the upcoming LNG projects in Palma“.
