Italian energy company Eni has set up a new company with Angolan state oil company Sonangol to develop renewable energy projects in the African country.
Eni said the creation of Solenova is consistent with the Angola’s energy strategy to have 800MW of clean power capacity installed by 2025, with the main focus on utility-scale solar.
The first project to be developed will be a 50MW solar farm in the south of Angola.
Eni added that it aims to develop renewable energy projects at over 60 brown- and greenfield sites globally to install 1.6GW of wind and solar by 2022 and 5GW by 2025.
It has committed €1.4bn to projects for the 2019-2022 period.
