The Mozambican government announced on Tuesday that it is negotiating an agreement with a Portuguese airline which will allow the return of Mozambican Airlines (LAM) to the European air space as from the first quarter of 2020.

Mozambican Transport and Communications Minister Carlos Mesquita is quoted by the Mozambican daily newspaper Notícias as saying that LAM is preparing to make it possible to fly the national carrier to Europe next year.

The operation of the Mozambican flagship carrier will be done through a cooperation agreement with a Portuguese airline, whose name was not disclosed by the minister.

The prospect of the resumption of LAM flights to Europe comes after the EU lifted the flight ban imposed on Mozambican carriers in Europe.

“We are focusing on training crews so that we can save resources in order to invest in new aircraft suitable for the intended traffic at national, regional and international levels,” the Mozambican Transport and Communications Minister added.
