New sea transport concessionaire in Cabo Verde starts operating on 15 August

The launch of the new sea transport concessionaire on 15 August, “will unite all the islands that will now have a single market,” said the Minister of Transport and Tourism and Minister of Maritime Economy of Cabo Verde.

Minister José Gonçalves also said that the measure taken by the government to overcome the sea connection problems facing the archipelago, “will bring a new dynamism to the sector, and the number of sea voyages will increase,” according to official information.

Initially, the concessionaire will start the trips with the currently available boats and, by the end of the year, it will have another vessel operating that is currently undergoing the required adaptations.

Gonçalves, who was on a working visit to Brava Island accompanied by the European Union’s head of cooperation in Cabo Verde, José Roman Leon Lora, also said that the concession contract stipulated that the entire fleet must be replaced within two years, “in order to better serve Cabo Verde.”
