United Kingdom commends Guinea Bissau at the UN

In a speech delivered last Tuesday at the Security Council briefing on Guinea Bissau, UK Acting Political Coordinator at the UN, David Clay stated that the United Kingdom shares the cautious optimism presented in the assessment of Guinea Bissau’s political trajectory.

He also expressed that the United Kingdom would be open to a review of the sanctions measures currently imposed under Resolution 2048 Should the presidential elections take place as scheduled in November in a free and fair manner, and pending implementation of the priority reforms as outlined in the Conakry Agreement and the ECOWAS Roadmap.

Overall the statement was very positive (although cautious) on the future outlook of UK – Guinea Bissau relations.
