In recent years, several international airlines have expressed an interest in operating in Mozambique. Fly Emirates is one of them.
Emirates, one of the largest airlines in the world, has been carrying out studies in the country for two years and, next July, will start operating international flights from Maputo on routes that include direct flights to Dubai, Chairman of the National Civil Aviation Institute, João de Abreu, said today.
Competition among airlines to operate in Mozambique arises in a context in which the country is moving forward with the certification of as yet uncertified airports such as Beira, for example.
The minister of transport and communications sees airport certification as a challenge which will soon be overcome. “It is a huge challenge,” Janfar Abdulai said on a visit to the premises of the National Civil Aviation Institute (IACM].
Janfar Abdulai undertook his first visit since taking office as Minister of Transport and Communications to the IACM, to learn more about its activities.
