Angola keeps Windhoek weekly flights despite Air Namibia’s withdrawal

Angolan Airline (TAAG) will keep its seven flights weekly to Windhoek, although Air Namibia has suspended flights to Luanda, the company’s spokesperson, Carlos Vicente, said on Thursday.

Although this is an unquestionable opportunity, TAAG does not plan to immediately increase the number of flights to Windhoek or Johannesburg (South Africa), taking into consideration that South Africa Airways is also expected to stop flying to Luanda in February, Vicente said.

In the meantime, the TAAG official admitted the possibility for the company to increase flights to Southern Africa destinations, if there is huge demand or to eventually increase in March when the schedule of domestic and international flights are readjusted.

After 28 years flying to the Angolan capital, Air Namibia cut off flights to Luanda on February 9 for an indefinite period, as the company says the route has become economically unviable, while South African Airways is also expected to suspend flights to Angola in February.
