French oil company to invest $4 million in the installation of solar systems at over 50 sites.
Total SA has launched a $4 million project to fit half of its stations in Zimbabwe with solar panels. The project will enable the oil company to become more independent of the power grid.
In order to reduce its electricity bill and become more energy independent, the French oil company will be rolling solar power systems across its network of 101 petrol station in Zimbabwe, reports Afrik 21.
The use of solar panels will help cut energy dependence from the national power grid and other sources by 30%. So far six sites have already been fitted with solar panels.
The project, the first of its kind to be launched in Zimbabwe, is part of Total’s plan to solarise service stations in 57 countries as it looks to cut carbon dioxide emissions.
Total recently opened its thousandth solar station in Marrakech, Morocco.
