The deadline for supplying and acquisition of the tender documents and subsequent steps for the public tender limited by prior qualification for Angola to hire five independent rough diamond valuers has been extended by 45 days, said the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Oil.

The ministry said in a statement that the extension is due to the developments in the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to adopt measures to safeguard the health and wellbeing of national and foreign, resident and non-resident participants.

The statement recalls that the timetable of the public tender, which was launched on 19 February 2020, provided for the dissemination and publication of the results on 16 June 2020, and the contracted service of the independent evaluators was due to begin on 20 July.

Last year, Angola grossed US$1.3 billion from the sale of 9.2 million carats of diamonds, as a result of a new marketing policy adopted in 2018 by the government, which stepped away from a system involving preferential customers.
