Ventures Platform has selected 7 Nigerian startups to participate in its #COVID19InnovationChallenge. Wellvis, Infodemics, iQube, Prunedge, WellaHealth, Innover Technologies and cMapit will receive funding, mentorship and premium services from its partners.

Over 500 teams applied for the innovation challenge. Ventures Platform required the healthtech startups to submit projects or ideas that address the COVID-19 pandemic. The solutions were to focus on heat mapping, preventative or informative bots, solutions to assist with lifestyle adjustments and verified reports of the COVID-19 cases.

Meet the 7 #COVID19InnovationChallenge startups:

iQube

iQube came up with MyServiceAgent, a solution that will help the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) to promptly and simultaneously communicate with hundreds of callers and attend to urgent cases.

Prunedge

Prunedge pitched GloEpid, a product that is in the pipeline. Although we don’t have details regarding this product, Prunedge develops solutions to improve the efficiency of processes and aid decision making within organizations.

WellaHealth

Its solution, Driage is a digital triage bot that communicates NCDC guidelines to users. It also records responses and enables relevant public health organizations to follow up accordingly.

Innover Technologies

The startup’s pitched a solution dubbed COVID-19 Nigeria. Innover Technologies leverages tech to solve problems. Details about this solution are not yet available.

cMapit Technologies

It developed a Geographic Information System (GIS) and data visualization software that provides geospatial data and analyses statistics regarding COVID-19. This helps researchers to study data variables and makes predictions more accurate.

Ventures Platform selected these 7 startups from the initial shortlisted 33 that made it to the second stage. Six startups were supposed to make the finals but another was considered based on feasibility and relevance of the pitch. Each startup will receive a $2000 equity-free grant and mentors will be assigned to fast-track the deployment of the projects to tackle the outbreak.
