Ghana Tech Lab has partnered with Mastercard Foundation’s Young Africa Works to launch a $10,000 fund. The partners launched the SLI-COVID-19 Challenge to support startups fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic in Ghana.

The Ghana Tech Lab incubator is a joint venture between Innohub Ghana and Kumasi Hive that is overseen by the Ministry of Communications. The partnership with Mastercard will help rapidly mobilize, support, and scale innovations to provide essential services during and after the pandemic. SLI-COVID-19 Challenge will scale local innovations that are directly or indirectly mitigating the adverse effect of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The SLI-COVID-19 Challenge will help startups to scale-up innovative solutions that will stop the spread of the pandemic. The selected startups will receive online coaching for one month. They will also receive business mentorship to help develop their products.

The Challenge has received a total of 199 applications. Fifteen short-listed applicants submitted online pitches for further review after the initial screening. After the final screening, six local startups will be short-listed. Finalists will present their solutions at an online session in May 2020. At the end of the day, all six startups will receive the $10,000 grant to help scale their innovations.
