Mota-Engil África signed, as part of a 50/50 partnership with BESIX, a Belgian company specialising in maritime projects, a contract that is part of the project for extraction of natural gas in Mozambique, in the province of Cabo Delgado, Portuguese group Mota-Engil said in a market statement.

The project, whose client is CCS JV, a partnership between US group McDermott, Italy’s Saipem and Japan’s Chiyoda, includes the construction of a jetty and unloading platform with a total value of around US$365 million.

The work will take 32 months, starting in the first half of 2020, and this is the first contract awarded by CCS JV as part of the project for the exploration of the Area 1 block of the Rovuma basin, northern Mozambique, led and operated by French group Total.

CCS JV in June 2019 signed a contract with the Anadarko Petroleum Corporation (since acquired by the Occidental Petroleum group, which sold its African interests to the Total group) for the provision of services in the Area 1 natural gas project, in northern Mozambique.

The Area 1 block is operated by the Total group, with a stake of 26.5%, and its partners are ENH Rovuma Área Um, a subsidiary of state oil company ENH, with 15%, Mitsui E&P Mozambique Area 1 Ltd. (20%), ONGC Videsh Ltd. (10%), Beas Rovuma Energy Mozambique Limited (10%), BPRL Ventures Mozambique B.V. (10%) and PTTEP Mozambique Area 1 Limited (8.5%).
