MTN Rwanda has contributed Rwf100 million to the recently unveiled Economic Recovery Fund.
“We felt it is extremely important to make this financial contribution toward the fund. We will also leverage our capabilities to provide support particularly toward SMEs to help keep them afloat during this time,” said Chantal Kagame, MTN’s Chief Business and Corporate Affairs Officer.
The contribution was received by Finance Minister, Dr. Uzziel Ndagijimana.
He said the government is happy that MTN has undertaken this initiative of supporting the fund to assist the Private Sector that was gravely affected by COVID-19. “We take this opportunity to encourage others to support this Fund,” he said.
Meanwhile, MTN announced that in collaboration with the Ministry of ICT & Innovation, the Ministry of Trade and RISA, it will give its customers free access to some e-commerce websites.
The move is intended to drive fast adoption of e-commerce services, boost sales for those SMEs with an online presence as well as encourage the public to shop online. This will be valid until August 31, 2020.
Additionally, MTN announced a 50% discount for SMEs who wish to take on 1-year contracts for data centre hosting and colocation services. Any SME that signs up before August 31, 2020, will also be eligible for 3 months free service.
To ensure SMEs have affordable communication solutions during this period of economic recovery, MTN has also introduced MTN SME ISIBO Bundles, a prepaid bundle for SMEs, that enables business owners to take control of their company’s communication to spend.
MTN SME Isibo Bundles are accessible by dialing *843# and can allow data, SMS, and minutes sharing between 3 to 15 phone numbers.
