Uber has launched another payment feature in Africa called Uber Cash. The ride-hailing company achieved this by integrating several fintech platforms, including Verve, M-Pesa, EFT, and Flutterwave.
Uber Cash will be available in South Africa, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Ghana, and Tanzania. It is not limited to the ride-hailing platform. Uber Eats, Uber’s food delivery service that is currently available in South Africa, can also use Uber Cash wallets.
With Uber Cash, riders can now pre-load their wallets for a ride in advance. Riders also have the option of transferring funds from the Barter app to Uber Cash wallets. It also reduces the use of cash payments and payment cards to transfer funds directly to drivers.

The method of loading money on wallets will vary. This is dependent on the country, the fintech, or mobile money provider that is being used by the rider. This feature reduces the risk of having out sensitive card information, especially in a situation where the phone gets missing.
Flutterwave is the infrastructure provider across all seven countries where Uber Cash is available in Africa. In April, it launched Flutterwave Store to give small businesses a platform to advertise online, despite challenges caused by the coronavirus lockdown.
