Park entry fees for all foreigners and domestic tourists visiting Kenyan parks has been reduced by 50 percent.
Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala announced on Thursday at the Kenya Wildlife Services headquarters.
The reduced rates are effective from July 1, 2020, to June 30, 2021. This means that with $1 (Sh150), you will enter most of the parks within the country.
Balala also announced a moratorium for free rent for all lodges in Kenya Wildlife Parks.
“The Cabinet Secretary @Min_TourismKE @Tunajibu has reduced the park entry fees to all Kenya Wildlife Service Parks and Reserves for all categories of tourists (Citizens, Residents, and Non-residents) effective July 1, 2020, for one year,” a statement from KWS read.
The ministry also announced a 50 percent reduction fee for all filmmakers who pay a certain amount of fee to KWS to be allowed to shoot their documentaries in Kenyan parks.
The good news comes a day following the clearance to resume air travel for tourism.
On Wednesday, Kenya was awarded the Safe Travel Stamp by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), a forum for the travel and tourism industry.
Kenya was awarded the Safe Travel Stamp following its embrace of globally recognized health and hygiene protocols to be employed by travellers while visiting various parts of the would during COVID-19 pandemic.
Balala said this is a positive move which will pave way for the resumption of operations in the travel and tourism industry.
During the launch of the Tourism and Travel Health and Safety Protocols in Kenya on Wednesday, July 1, Balala said that he was optimistic in reopening the tourism industry in the country.
“I am delighted to announce that Kenya has been listed among the 80 global destinations certified and authorised to use the “World Travel and Tourism Council Safe Travel Stamp” together with our Magical Kenya Logo,” said Balala during the launch of the Tourism and Travel Health and Safety Protocols on Wednesday.
“This stamp will allow travellers to recognise Kenya as a safe destination once we reopen and implement the health and safety protocols” he stated.
