This year, Tete province raised more than US$2M (125 million meticais) from the export of tobacco.
The amount is the result of the export to the international market of around 10,000 tons of tobacco, produced by smallholders farmers in the family sector.
Compared to the same period last year, there was a slight reduction of around 5%, as a result of Covid-19 restrictions.
The provincial director of Industry and Commerce, Ofélio Jeremias, said that the tobacco company in Tete is trying to reach a goal of 50,000 tons.
