Covid-19: Angola, China discuss strengthened cooperation

Angola and China analysed Tuesday the strengthening of cooperation in the prevention and fight against covid-19 pandemic.

This was at the meeting between the 6th Commission of the National Assembly and the Asian country’s ambassador, Dong Tao.

Speaking to the press, the Chinese diplomat reiterated the two countries strategic partnership with good bilateral relation in political, economic and social fields.

He also stressed the union and solidarity between the two countries, mainly in this period of pandemic.

Dong Tao said that a team of Chinese technicians with BGI company, from the Wuhan city, the epicentre of COVID-19, has been in Angola to set up laboratories and campaign hospitals in six provinces of the country.

Laboratories have strategically been installed in the provinces of Luanda, Uíge, Lunda Norte and Huambo, each with the capacity to process 1,000 tests daily.

The Chinese diplomat said that Chinese Embassy and the 6th Commission of National Assembly will continue to hold contacts in various fields, such as information, health, education, higher education and technology.

In turn, the leader of the 6th Commission of the National Assembly Victor Kajibanga highlighted the need to deepen strategic partnerships between the States, especially in this covid-19 period.

The diplomat said that efforts to avoid the spread of the virus are in progress.

He highlighted the Chinese vaccine and announced his country’s plan to make it available to the World Health Organisation (WHO).
