Kenya is Africa’s 2020 leading tourist destination. This is according to the World Travel Association which made the announcement during the inaugural Africa Winners Day.
In the World Travel Awards which were also presented, Kenyan Tourism Board (KTB) was named the best tourism board in the continent.
Destination Kenya scooped an award in the category of Africa’s leading destination management company 2020 while Nairobi was named Africa’s Leading Business Travel Destination’, and Kenyatta International Convention Centre (K.I.C.C) collected ‘Africa’s Leading Meetings & Conference Centre’.

Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) Chairman Jimi Kariuki said the awards were a representation of a vibrant tourism sector in the country
“This is a big encouragement to everybody in the tourism sector and shows that even as we go through this difficult time, Kenya still remains the top destination in Africa.
“We shall continue to improve our tourism products and to showcase our diverse offerings globally so that we remain ready for take-off once travel resumes fully,” Kariuki said.
“I take this opportunity to congratulate all the Kenyan winners including KTB which won Africa’s leading tourist Board. We shall continue with our efforts to see that Kenya is always at the top in tourism offering,” he added.

Dr. Betty Radier, the CEO of KTB said that the awards a big boost for the country and it will help in bringing in more tourists to the country.
“This win makes us immensely proud. It shows that our efforts in showcasing our diverse offerings through our various campaigns have borne fruits with people anticipating to come to Kenya once travel resumes fully.
WTA is a global entity that awards excellence in Africa’s travel and tour sectors which have excelled.
Kenya Coast Tourism Brand Launched As Revival Plan Continues
The Tourism Ministry through CS Najib Balala ran the #TheMagicAwaits campaign during lockdown to expose Kenya more in regard to travel.
Through the current #RediscoverTheMagic, the ministry is banking on getting more tourists visiting Kenya to experience the diverse culture and tonnes of wildlife across the country’s many parks.
