For any body size and height, Rwandan girls will be able to contest in the prestigious Miss Rwanda pageant – its management said it has made adjustments to requirements.
Previously all pageants had to undergo height measurements before they would be selected to proceed to the next level.
“To contest, one had to have a height of at least 1,70m and a Body Mass Index (BMI) between 18.5 and 24.9,” Miss Rwanda said.
Another new change has seen the age requirement extended from the previous standard of 18-24 years to 18-28 years.
According to Miss Rwanda management, the weight is no longer important but pageants will be measured based on Body Mass Index (BMI) which previously has been between 18.5 and 24.9.

The body mass index (BMI) is a measure that uses your height and weight to work out if your weight is healthy.
For most adults, an ideal BMI is in the 18.5 to 24.9 range. Therefore Miss Rwanda will only accept pageants that are healthy and not self-starved.
Useful note for the BMI:
Below 18.5 – you’re in the underweight range
Between 18.5 and 24.9 – you’re in the healthy weight range
Between 25 and 29.9 – you’re in the overweight range
Between 30 and 39.9 – you’re in the obese range
