The Temane Thermal Power Plant will cost US$1 billion, and will guarantee the electrification of the entire southern part of the country over a distance of about 650 kilometres, as well as reducing imports of cooking gas, President Nyusi said in Maputo this Monday (31-5) at the launch of the Temane gas and energy project.
President Nyusi also spoke about the 3,000 jobs that would be created during the project implementation process, and 200 permanent jobs in the operational phase, the majority of which will be Mozambican labour.
Located in the north of Inhambane province, the Temane Thermal Power Station is part of the government’s development focus on the provision of renewable energy in the country. It will ease energy production pressure on the Cahora Bassa hydroelectric plant, increasing the quality of energy supplied to the northern provinces of the country.
