Rwandan chili farmers may be slated for big returns if they consistently supply the vast new Chinese market.

Rwandan envoy to China, James Kimonyo, on August 4, virtually joined leaders of the Department of Commerce of Hunan Province, Changsha Customs and GK International Enterprises to welcome the first shipment of dried chili exported from Rwanda to China.

Speaking during the event, Amb. Kimonyo thanked the Chinese government for opening up the Chinese market for Rwandan products and added that Rwanda looks forward to deepening economic cooperation with China and Hunan Province in particular.

Rwanda’s first dried chili export to China marks the opening of similar and more export opportunities for Rwandan horticulture products.

National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB) said it will continue to support producers as well as exporters penetrate and access the Chinese and other international export markets.
