Dubai’s trade with Africa is now worth $45bn a year, with Eastern and Southern Africa accounting for the lion’s share due to their geographic proximity and historical ties. Trade with the Southern African Development Community (SADC) specifically is worth $5.2bn, or 11% of total trade. South Africa is the biggest market at present, worth $3.5bn, followed by Botswana at $1.3bn. Agribusiness is a priority in the majority of Southern African Countries.
Abdulla Momade, Dubai Chamber Chief Representative of Mozambique & Southern Africa said “In Zimbabwe, the fruits and vegetable sector is the 6th largest agricultural export earner, with a 6.5% share in the country’s agricultural GDP and 26.9% of food and beverage exports over the period 2015 – 2019. We believe the webinar is another great platform to showcase the market trends and opportunities that African businesses can take advantage of, from establishing a legal presence in Dubai to finding the right partners and distributors for fresh products”.
The webinar is part of a number of initiatives the Dubai Chamber of Commerce has been developing in order to capitalize on the good momentum of the relationship between Dubai and Africa.
