H.E Denis Sassou-Nguesso, President of the Republic of the Congo, has inaugurated the new headquarters of the autonomous port of Pointe-Noire (PAPN).

The new building aims to centralize the port’s services while improving the working conditions of its staff.

Accompanying the President at the inauguration on the 22nd of January 2022 was H.E. Jean Jacques Bouyathe, the Republic of Congo’s Minister of Territorial Development, and H.E. Jean-Marc Thystère Tchicaya, Minister of Transport, Civil Aviation and Merchant Navy, as well as PAPN Director, Séraphin Balla, who stated that the modernizing efforts set the port’s infrastructure to international maritime transport standards.

Funded by the Congolese government and PAPN, with an estimated cost of over $43.6 million, the headquarters were built by China Engineering Corporation and includes large warehouses, board rooms, archives, a library and a presidential office, among other facilities.

The Congo is currently engaged in large infrastructure development projects with the aim to diversify its economy and attract investors into the country’s petroleum, agricultural, and mining sectors. As the region’s only deep-water port with direct access from the sea, the PAPN remains central to these efforts, easing import-export activities with world-class services for all sectors of the economy.
