Ethiopia and Kenya have entered a new deal for Kenya’s additional purchase of hydroelectric power from Ethiopia.
The new deal helps “realize the aspirations of both countries… for regional economic integration and sustainable development,” Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
The two neighbors have previously inked deals on power trade, as well as finalization and operationalization guidelines and procedures in tandem with the interconnection of power systems.
This new deal has been signed during a visit to Kenya from February 2 to 4, 2022, of a delegation led by Eyob Tekalign, Ethiopia’s State Minister of Finance.
