Angola Unitel will be partnered up with Huawei to demonstrate green and smart digital energy solutions for mobile sites at MWC22 Barcelona.

Angola Unitel has spent years continuously exploring innovative technical and business solutions in the pursuit of green, low-carbon, and sustainable development. Through their partnership with Huawei, they are already on the path towards green networks and lower network OPEX which will undoubtedly support Angola’s socio-economic and industrial development.

Huawei actively supports the green development strategies of its operator customers. With the systematic “Green site, Green network, and Green operation” solution, Huawei helps operators continuously increase network capacity and reduce energy consumption per bit. This “More Bits, Less Watts” strategy from Huawei is ultimately intended to support the creation of an ultra-green smart target network.

Unitel has worked with Huawei in energy modernization and site OPEX reduction since 2019. To date, Unitel has deployed more than 1,050 sets of high-performance cycle lithium batteries as well as the NetEco, and Power Cube solutions. Huawei integrates these advanced hybrid power, CloudLi, and NetEco solutions to help clients accelerate their move away from diesel generators and towards zero-carbon operations. These solutions can ultimately reduce diesel generator operating time by 75% and reduce OPEX by 40%.

Such site digitalization and intelligence allows energy networks to be continuously visualized, managed, and optimized, significantly improving O&M efficiency and site reliability. Both are key to simplified sites evolution, OPEX reduction, and operational security.

Unitel’s Maintenance Department Director José Mavungo said Huawei’s innovative solutions are highly aligned with Unitel’s future energy strategy. Both sides are actively looking forward to further opportunities for cooperation. Already, a dedicated team is being established by the two companies to digitalize existing sites for continuous monitoring and optimization.

Both companies have also committed to supporting further green energy modernization of existing sites, reducing the proportion of diesel generators used, and introducing solar energy, smart lithium batteries, and NetEco systems to reduce fuel, site maintenance, and battery replacement costs. Finally, for new services such as 5G and home broadband, Unitel also plans to work with Huawei on new green and low-carbon dual-energy target networks for 5G and home broadband. They plan to use a “5G + fixed network” strategy to reduce energy CAPEX and challenges brought by new services.

Huawei will continue to introduce more practical cases and more advanced innovative technologies in the future. The two sides will work together to achieve a green, environmental-friendly, and low-carbon energy target network, facilitate sustainable network evolution, light up the future, and unlock new connectivity values—innovation, win-win, green future.
