Following the announcement of yesterday’s exonerations by Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi, two new press releases were issued today.

The first comuniqué issue this morning exonerated Carlos Agostinho do Rosário from his position as Prime Minister of Mozambique while the second one this afternoon presented some of the nominations for the positions exonerated yesterday with special attention to the announcement of Adriano Maleiane as the new Prime Minister of the Republic of Mozambique.

72-year-old Adriano Maleiane has served as Minister of Finance from the very beginning of President Nyusi’s government and is widely acknowledged as one of Mozambique’s leading economists. With a successful history as a former governor of the country’s central bank from 1991 and 2006 followed by his leadership in the creation process of Mozambique’s National Investment and Development Bank – BNI, Mr. Maleiane has a strong track record of negotiating economic issues with foreign governments and is expected to validate his government on a number of key current issues.

Today’s presidential document also announced the nomination of 5 other ministers as follow:

  • Silvino Augusto Moreno, Minister of Industry and Commerce;
  • Carlos Mesquita, Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources;
  • Lídia Cardoso, Minister of the Sea and Fisheries;
  • Carlos Joaquim Zacarias, Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy;
  • Amilcar Palha Tivane, Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance.

There is still no word on the nomination for the Minister of Finance, however, its announcement is expected shortly.
