Serigne Ndanck Mbaye CEO of DHL Global Forwarding West Africa and Country Head for Ghana was recently interviewed by Africa Business Insider. He explained how the pandemic acted as a catalyst for digitalisation in the logistics sector in Africa.
“Although we have invested in our digitalisation efforts long before COVID-19, we pushed through during the pandemic period last year and launched myDHLi, a fully integrated online platform for freight forwarding customers. The platform provides 360° visibility and full control over shipments, including freight rates, offers, transport modes, carbon emissions, and all other relevant shipment data, to support our customers quickly and accurately for better business decisions.

Specific for road freight, an essential offering in most landlocked Africa, we successfully rolled out Saloodo!, our digital freight platform that offers a single, reliable and straightforward interface for shippers and transport providers to optimise cost, routes, cargo and transit times. With this solution, transport providers across the continent can plan their routes based on capacity demand and avoid empty runs.
Over the last two decades, we’ve seen massive transformation in the logistics sector resulting from a host of digitalisation initiatives and reforms. We strongly believe that digitalisation can ease and improve the daily business of shippers and freight forwarders. Given how young the population is in Africa and how African businesses are increasingly reaching world markets, we anticipate that digitalisation will continue to be a priority.”
