On Thursday 28th April 2022 First Base Limitada, an Edgebold Group Company, officially handed over the new Pemba Market Place Retail Centre to the Pemba Municipality.
The official handover and opening of the Pemba Market retail centre was hosted by First Base Limitada Chief Executive Officer Snr. Jose Rato and His Excellency Florete Motarua, the Mayor of Pemba. The Pemba municipality was also represented by Snr. Rodolfo Pinheiro and Snr. Liana Juma, from the municipality Real State Property Department. Snr. In 2014 First Base Limtada made a commitment to the Pemba municipality that it would build a 17 shop retail centre in return for the right to develop a mixed-use commercial real estate project on the remaining land and buildings known as the Pemba central market. This commitment was honoured by First Base Limitada.
Both First Base Limitada and the Pemba Municipality confirmed that the original façade of the Pemba Market would be retained as the next phase of development is completed, preserving the history and story of this important site.
Mr. Rato stated ‘we are delighted to deliver this important retail park to the Pemba Municipality, and we hope that the local community benefits greatly from the work we have done. We are excited to now begin plans for the next phase of the development over the majority of the site’.
