On the 12th of October, Limak Cements, S.A opened its latest Thermal Power Plant, located in the municipality of Matola, Maputo province, an infrastructure capable of generating clean energy for the production of cement with the equivalent of 4.8 MW of capacity with availability throughout the country, reinforcing the promotion of sustainable investments alternative energy sources.
Owned by the Turkish company, the project is part of Limak Cement’s goal 2050, in which the Group intends to maximize the sources of clean energy production, in this case, based on natural gas, aiming to promote the reduction of carbon emissions in the atmosphere, thus reducing its harmful effects on the environment.

On the occasion, the CEO of Limak Cement Group, M. Erkam Kocakerim, said “we hope that the technological investment made in this facility will serve as an example for other industries, to help the country increase the energy production capacity in the region. We are aware that energy is a crucial factor for the promotion of income generation activities and the processing of agricultural products”.
The Minister of Industry and Commerce, Silvino Moreno, added that the investment made by the Turkish company will contribute to the reliability of energy and that he also hopes that it will have an impact on the production of cement prices in the national market.
“The entry and operation of this power plant based on natural gas, entails a production with industrial efficiency that we hope to not only supply the domestic market, but also the regional one, thus contributing to the reduction of imports”, said Moreno.
The Factory’s infrastructure was built in four months and established in an area of 1000 square metres, financed by the second largest cement producer in Turkey for 3.5 million euros, with a more advanced technological system, in an investment with high capacity in terms of energy efficiency.
The opening ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Silvino Augusto José Moreno, and was attended by the Managers of the Limak Cement Group, the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in Maputo, Hüseyin Avni Aksoy, Secretary of State for the Province of Maputo, Vitoria Dias Diogo, the Deputy Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, António Osvaldo Saíde, among other relevant individuals.
