Ethio Telecom has begun providing a pre-commercial 5G mobile service in Adama city.
The state-owned telecom services provider rolled out its first 5G service network in Addis Ababa in May, 2022.

Today’s launch makes Adama only the second city in Ethiopia where where the 5G trial service is available.
“We have launched 5G mobile service today at Adama city at six mobile stations on pre-commercial level,” announced the company on Wednesday.
“We believe that launching this 5G mobile technology will play a significant role” in optimizing the connectivity to deploy smart technologies.
It also said the service will also be “an important milestone in achieving the vision of making Adama a smart city.”

Ethio Telecom “is highly committed” to expand the 5G mobile network and service to other regional cities soon based on demand, its officials said.
