The Government of Kano State, located in northern Nigeria, has announced the completion of its 10 MW HydroPower Station at Tiga Dam, and currently awaits certification from the Government administration company, the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA).
The hydropower plant will have a generating and transmission capacity of 33 kV, with power generated from the station to be used for the State’s Tamburawa Water Treatment Plant, ensuring the availability of clean drinking water for the Kano population and reducing water-borne diseases.

The hydropower plant will also power streetlights in the region.
The Managing Director of the Kano Hydro and Energy Development Company, Hadiza Tukur, highlighted that pre-commissioning tests are currently ongoing pending certification from NEMSA.
