Mozambican Prime Minister Adriano Maleiane believes that aid for development and trade should serve as a mechanism to increase the involvement of the business sector of the Least Developed Countries in the global value chain.

Similarly, according to Maleiane, it should also serve as a mechanism for investment in the improvement of transport and logistics services, industrialization, agribusiness, energy, tourism, and consequently the diversification of their economic base.

The Prime Minister expressed this concern on Sunday, in Doha, capital of Qatar, during the United Nations Fifth Conference of Least Developed Countries, where he is heading the Mozambican delegation, and representing President Filipe Nyusi.

“We are hopeful that the discussions on the various issues surrounding the strategic objectives and goals of our Doha 2022-2032 Program of Action constitute an irreversible point for the fulfilment of our promise to leave no one behind in our efforts for the achievement of the well-being of our peoples”, he said.

As part of the implementation of the National Strategy for Economic and Social Development, according to Maleiane, the Mozambican government has established as its main goal the creation of conditions for each and every Mozambican to find space to generate and increase their income because it believes that this is the best way to combat individual and collective poverty.

“In this sense, we have selected agriculture, based on the value chain, to sustain the industrialization of our country”, he said.

In order to achieve this economic and social transformation of the country, Maleiane explained that the government is counting on the involvement and active participation of the domestic and foreign private sector.

“Mozambique is committed to the full implementation of the Doha Action Program that translates renewed commitments among the Least Developed Countries and between them and their development partners, as well as the private sector, civil society and other stakeholders”, he said.
