The northern region of Inhambane province may be declared a special economic zone for tourism, in a strategy to boost the attraction of more investments and stimulate the socio-economic and tourism development of this region of the country.
The special economic zone should cover the districts of Vilankulo, Inhassoro, Govuro, Massinga and Mabote, in a combination of beach tourism and conservation areas.

The idea was assumed this Monday, May 8, by the Inhambane Provincial Executive Council, after its presentation by the Vilankulo district government, in partnership with Forum Senson Investimentos Lda, an institution dedicated to supporting investments in the national market.
According to the entity’s spokesman, Simão Mavimbe, the purpose of the special economic zone for tourism is to “create conditions for attracting investment to the Mapinhane-Pafuri corridor, which crosses the Vilankulo districts, connecting the national parks of Zinave, in Mabote, and Banhine and Limpopo, in the southern province of Gaza”.
In this context, he referred to the need to solve problems of disorderly occupation of land by individuals, exercise of agriculture in areas suitable for tourism practice, which conditions the development of the sector and the reduction of investments.
